How to Submit Snowmobile Trail Edits

Dane County Snowmobile Club contacts may request changes to their snowmobile trails using the methods below. The trail data is used in several places including:

Please note that changes for the 2023-2024 season must be submitted by Friday, December 1, 2023.


Edit Methods

Method #1. Draw your edits on a image or basemap.
1. One option is to launch the  Map for Clubs Only and click on the Layers List icon in the upper right (circled in red in image below).

2. Click the layers you would like draw including Trail Class. if you click on a trail you can see the attributes stored for each trail including:  Club Name, Class, Miles, Trail Name/Number, Trail Type, and Grant Funding Administrator.
3. Zoom in/out to your change area using the scroll wheel on your mouse. To pan the map, click and hold the left mouse button while moving the mouse.
4. Click the Draw icon (one right of the Layer List icon above) and select the Polyline draw mode (third button from the left). Select a color and follow the prompts on the screen to draw your new line.
5. Add text describing the change by clicking on the "A" button in the Draw tool, typing your Text in the Text:  Trail #15 Changed (ex.) and click map where you'd like to place the text. You click the "Undo" button if you'd like to change the text placement. Note that some users prefer to add comments/mark ups directly on the PDF, you can skip this step if you'd like to do that.
6. When you're done with edits to the map, you can click the Print icon in the upper left (circled in red in image below).

7. You can change the Map Title as needed (by default the title is Snowmobile Trails - Club Review only). Then click "Print" and a PDF of the map is created. You will see it listed below the Advanced and Print buttons in the Print window above. Click on the PDF to open it, add comments/markups as needed, and download final PDF to your computer (click on the "Download this file" icon in upper right, it has a down arrow).
8. Submit PDFs per options below.

Method #2. Create a GIS dataset.
1. Create a GIS dataset of the changes in one of the following formats:  .shp, .kmz, .kml, .gpx.
2. Submit dataset using options below.

Please include the following information:  your name, club name, and trail number(s) with edits.

You may also upload documents to our Snowmobile Trail File Share webpage (this is required if documents are larger than 10 MB). If you upload files, an email should also be sent that describes the uploaded documents.
