Spend your summer working in our parks or on our lakes! We hire a large number of seasonal employees to help manage our natural spaces during their busiest time of the year. These positions are usually temporary and seasonal and offer the employee a great opportunity to connect with our staff and gain some hands on experience managing our parks and natural spaces.
Applicants must be eighteen years of age or older. LTE positions are limited to working 1,200 hours per payroll year. Duties include maintaining campgrounds, shelter areas, playgrounds, trails, boat launches, and handling special events. Candidates should have good communication skills, ability to work independently, and have some skills in facility maintenance and cleaning. Experience operating commercial type mowers and equipment a plus.
Work location: Various county park locations. Must have transportation to and from the work location.
Typical Hours or Work Schedule: 40 hours per week. Work schedule will likely include evening and weekend hours. The season can start as early as mid-April and go as late as mid-October, if the candidate is available to work spring and fall. Multiple summer positions from June – August are available too.

Responsible for visitor services such as user registrations for camping, boat launches, trails and other required permits. Maintains the work unit grounds and facilities to include mowing, refuse collection, and cleaning restroom and shower buildings. Supervises LTE County Park Attendants in the absence of a full-time Park Ranger. Provides information and assistance to the public. Works under the guidance of a full-time Park Ranger to identify visitor complaints and user conflicts and maintains accurate records for documenting complaints and conflicts. Issues warning tickets for park ordinance violations. Assists with office work including answering phones, making camping and shelter reservations and permit sales.
Work location: Various county park locations. Must have transportation to and from the work location.
Typical Hours or Work Schedule: 40 hours per week. Works varying schedules including nights, weekends and holidays from April – October.

Pay: $24.74 / hour
Duties include assisting with and leading summer environmental education field trips for youth grades K-8 including fishing, biking, and hiking (gear is provided). Additional duties include some facility cleaning, event setup including moving tables and chairs, and handling special events.
Work location: Lussier Family Heritage Center (3101 Lake Farm Road, Madison)
Typical Hours or Work Schedule: 15 hours/week September – May, 40 hours/week June – August. Will include evening and weekend hours.
Requirements: A valid driver's license and good driving record is required. Candidates should have good communication skills, ability to work independently, and have some prior experience working with youth.
Pay: $22.99 / hour
Responsible for completing ecological restoration and land management activities on public lands throughout Dane County. Duties include evaluating vegetation and site conditions, removing invasive species, conducting prescribed burns, monitoring restoration projects, communicating with stakeholders, maintaining work task logs and herbicide use reports, collecting and processing native plant seed, working with volunteers and partner organizations, helping with wildlife surveys, operating and maintaining land management equipment including chainsaws, powered cutters, mowers, UTV/ATVs, sprayers and drip torches.
Work location: Various county park locations. Must have transportation to and from the work location.
Typical Hours or Work Schedule: 40 hours per week.
Requirements: A valid driver’s license and a good driving record required. Ability to routinely lift up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted. Ability to do manual labor, including repetitive lifting, bending, reaching, kneeling and squatting. Work will be primarily outdoors in varying terrains in harsh temperature conditions.

Duties include grounds maintenance, such as mowing, string trimming, tree trimming, planting and mulching, trail maintenance and snow removal. Duties also include facility repair and maintenance such as cleaning, washing, painting and assisting with building repairs. Operate and maintain commercial type mowers, trimmers, light and heavy-duty vehicles. Provide information and assistance to the public when approached in the field.

Responsibilities include operating aquatic plant harvesters in lakes and rivers to maintain water flow in rivers and provide recreation use for boating, fishing, and swimming.

Typical Hours or Work Schedule: 40 hours per week.
Requirements: Must have or obtain a WI Department of Natural Resources Boater Safety Certificate to operate watercraft. Must be able to lift heavy objects, bend and climb for this position.
Pay: $22.99 / hour
Responsibilities include driving large haul trucks to transport vegetation and debris from the aquatic plant harvesters; assist with equipment preparation and maintenance.
