Event Description

Help grow goodness in Oregon! Want to get your hands dirty for a great cause? Anderson Park Friends, Inc. (APF) is looking for volunteers to help grow fresh fruits and vegetables for local food pantries—and we’d love to have you join us!

The ¼-acre pantry garden, located at 805 Union Road in Oregon at Anderson Farm County Park, is part of APF’s agricultural mission for developing Anderson Farm County Park. Everything grown gets delivered to area food pantries to help families in need—and it’s all done by volunteers!

When Do We Need Help?
Every week during the growing season—from April through October. Regular work sessions are held on Tuesday mornings from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., with extra dates scheduled throughout the summer as needed.

No Green Thumb? No Problem!
Whether you're a seasoned gardener or a total newbie, we’ve got you covered. Volunteers receive on-the-job training and supervision at every work session.

What Will You Be Doing?
There’s something for everyone—planning, planting, weeding, and harvesting fruits and vegetables. You don’t need to bring tools—we provide everything you’ll need. You’re welcome to bring your own, too. We suggest packing:

  • Water
  • Bug spray
  • Sunscreen

What Should You Wear?
Dress for the weather and the dirt! We recommend:

  • Closed-toe, sturdy shoes
  • Long sleeves and pants
  • No jewelry (it can snag or get lost)

A Few More Things to Know:

  • We follow mostly organic practices.
  • Most updates and weather decisions come by email the day before a session—or on-site if the weather’s uncertain.
  • We do some light cleaning of produce before pantry delivery.
  • We take breaks as needed—we encourage it!
  • Volunteers who sign our agreement and follow procedures are covered by liability insurance.
  • We love volunteers who take initiative and help lead when they’re ready.

We also gladly accept donations to improve our soil, upgrade equipment, and purchase needed supplies.

Come grow with us—your time and energy will help feed our community. See you in the garden!
