Build Your Own Snowshoes
Event Dates
- Tuesday, 12/10/2024 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Event Description
Have you ever been interested in different kinds of snowshoes or wanted to make your own pair? Join LFHC Staff in creating your own unique pair of snowshoes .We will be creating the style of snowshoes which are long and narrow, with both a tail and a pointed, up-turned toe, pictured below. This is a two day event to complete the building of the snowshoes. Warm beverages and light snacks will be provided during each session.
Tuesday December 3rd, 6 - 9 pm
Session 1: Getting kits and materials prepared for building snowshoes.
Tuesday December 10, 6 - 9 pm
Session 2: Completion of lacing snowshoes and instruction for sealing them and adding binding for use.
While registering, please indicate your preferred snowshoe size according to the following guidelines, which include the weight of your body and any gear:
- Youth: age 6 to about 120lbs.
- Small: age 8 to about 140 lbs.
- Medium: 130 lbs. to about 240 lbs.
- Large:6’ tall and 210 lbs. and up.
As a rule, smaller shoes are easier to walk on. If close to a size break, choose larger shoes if you have long legs, wear a hefty pack, regularly break trail, or have light, fluffy snow. Choose smaller shoes for shorter legs, denser snow, or packed trails (even if new snow covers the old tracks).
This workshop does not include the varnishing of the snowshoes, but directions will be provided for participants.
Cost: $160 per pair of snowshoes
Registration will close November 1st for material ordering. We need a minimum class size of 8 participants.
